1st-2nd September 2012, Singapore – tvN K-POP Star Hunt S2 Auditions
The two rounds of selection for Singapore’s leg of tvN K-POP Star Hunt S2 audition have concluded successfully over the weekends with16 finalists emerging from the shortlisted contestants and ultimately, the top 2 winners chosen to represent Singapore. Following Hong Kong and Taiwan, Singapore is the third country to hold the audition where more than 400 contestants (pre-selected and walk-in) showed up at Starhub Green on Saturday morning.
While awaiting for their turn, we had the chance to talk to a few contestants and find out their thoughts about joining the auditions. From as young as 11 year-old to those in their twenties, these passionate youths have proven that age is not a deterring factor when it comes to chasing their dream to stardom.
Not her first time joining an audition, Melo (21; left) took her first step to stardom by taking part in the Season 2 auditions, “I will take one step at a time. Given the opportunity, I’ll definitely go for it and hope to be able to make a lot of friends in the industry who share similar passion as me.”
Said Adhony (18; right), a contestant who had decided to do a walk-in audition despite not being shortlisted in the pre-selection round, “Singing is my passion. It is something that I will not give up in and my parents are very supportive of me. Although I’m still schooling now, I’m prepared to go all out for my dream.”

The following day of audition saw 16 finalists taking the stage at Plaza Singapura and competing against one another for the coveted spot in tvN K-POP Star Hunt S2, where the top 2 winners will have the opportunity to receive professional training with Cube Entertainment in Seoul. Being able to witness both seasons of auditions, it seems like the focus this year has been shifted more towards the vocal range.
Emerging from the pool of finalists are Anthea Wang (16) and Rendy Lauwady (20), who have both shown great potential in their vocal skills. As a finalist who made it through from the walk-in audition, the former (Anthea) was still in shock after the results were announced. The student from Kranji Secondary School said that tvN K-POP Star Hunt S2 was her first K-Pop talent competition and she was not expecting the win. At the same time, the latter (Rendy) was overwhelmed by his win as the first runner up as well, “This is a dream come true. I never thought that I could make it this far in the competition. I just know that I really, really want to be a singer and tvN K-POP Star Hunt S2 gave me this chance!”
Among the panel of judges comprise of Mr. Eddy Tan, Vice President, Programming of tvN, [V] and Star World, FOX International Channels (FIC); Mr. Park Jae-Hyun, General Department Head of Rookie Development Division, CUBE Entertainment; Singapore guest judge, Founder and CEO of local artiste management company FLY Entertainment, Ms. Irene Ang; as well as special guest judge, Tony An from legendary K-Pop group H.O.T, who will also take on the role as this season’s host.
“We chose Anthea and Rendy to represent Singapore as both of them really stood out in their personalities as well as vocal skills. It is important to connect to the audience and pick the right song that can display your skill and personality, and I hope that both Anthea and Rendy will continue to work hard in this area.” – Mr. Eddy Tan
“Aside from the new faces, we also spotted repeat contestants who came back to audition for Season 2 this year. We are glad to see a leap of improvements from a handful of them and hope that they will not give up in their dreams despite not making it to the top 2.” – Ms. Irene Ang “Practice hard, continue trying, and one day, you will be a Korean superstar. Hard work is essential.” – Mr. Park Jae-Hyun
“It’s good to see that K-Pop is so widespread and popular in Singapore these days. Though it’s not easy to stand on stage and perform in the public, I hope that the contestants will have more confidence in themselves.” – Tony An Along with 14 other winners from Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam, Anthea and Rendy will embark on their journey to stardom and receive an intensive professional training for K-Pop singer by CJ E&M and CUBE Entertainment in Seoul.
