[NEWS] Top 2 Winners To Represent Singapore Scoot: K-Pop Star Hunt 3

Singapore, 15 September 2013 Yvonne Chua, 23 and Stephanie Koh, 21 defeated 10 other finalists and emerged from a total of 406 aspiring contestants as the top two winners at the Scoot: K-Pop Star Hunt 3 Singapore Auditions. The duo will represent Singapore to train at the renowned Korean artiste management company, FNC Entertainment, with 14 other contestants across the region including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand as well as Indonesia, a new addition to this year’s K-Pop Star Hunt. Together, they will battle it out to be crowned the ultimate winner of the talent reality series.

The hunt for Singapore’s representatives at the Scoot: K-Pop Star Hunt 3 kicked off with the call for online video submissions on 1 August, followed by walk-in auditions held at Bugis+ on 15 September. With more than 270 video submissions and 132 walk-in auditions, the competition was intense. The judges decided to up the stakes by putting a twist to this year’s competition format as the 12 finalists were pitted against one another on stage in groups of twos or threes. After three rounds of elimination, the two ladies eventually emerged triumphant, winning the hearts of the judges with their soulful vocals and sleek dance moves.

These top two Singaporean contestants will fly to Seoul in mid-October 2013 to train under FNC Entertainment. Regarded as one of the top tier agencies in South Korea, FNC Entertainment has churned out the likes of Korean music powerhouses like CNBLUE, Juniel, FT Island and AOA. While trying to contain her shock of winning, Yvonne Chua, 23, Freelance Performer/Dance Instructor, shared “I never expected to win! I was stunned to hear that I have been selected for the auditions today. And being the winner is an even greater surprise. I will give this competition my all and make Singapore proud,” she exclaimed.

“I never thought that I could make it this far in the competition. All I told myself was to give my best shot and now, I am very thankful to be given a chance to train in Seoul!” said Stephanie Koh, 21, YouTuber/Graphic Designer.

The Singapore leg of Scoot: K-Pop Star Hunt 3 saw three judges – Mr. Eddy Tan, Vice President, Original Productions – Entertainment, FOX International Channels (FIC); Mr. Michael Jung, Head of channel M, FOX International Channels and representative for CJ E&M; Singapore guest judge, home grown singer and superstar idol, Mr. Derrick Hoh.

Said Mr. Derrick Hoh, “I’m very honoured to be invited as a judge for the Singapore auditions. Having been through a reality singing competition myself, I fully understand the stress these contestants undergo. I’m particularly impressed by some of the contestants, who have shown me raw talent that I am sure once given the proper training, they will be able to shine.”

Asked about this year’s competition and the winners, Mr. Derrick Hoh remarked, “Yvonne and Stephanie were outstanding to us as they exhibited the full package of potential stars, showcased through their performances and dominating stage presence, two important factors we often look out for.”

Echoing his fellow judge’s sentiments, returning judge for the third consecutive time Mr. Eddy Tan said, “Each time I return to judge the K-Pop Star Hunt auditions, I am always surprised by the young talents that Singapore has. The energy from the contestants was phenomenal due to their determination and drive to outdo their competition, and it is extremely heartening to see many familiar faces from previous years. The quality of singing and dancing in Singapore has set the standard for the other contestants in other countries competing in Scoot K-Pop Star Hunt 3.”

When asked to dish out advice to K-pop enthusiasts and future contestants, Mr. Michael Jung, representing CJ E&M as well as Head of channel M, offered some valuable tips, “Practice hard and never stop trying, because one day, your hard work will eventually pay off.”

For winners Yvonne Chua and Stephanie Koh, the journey to superstardom has only just begun. The two will continue their journey to become the next K-Pop idol when they meet up with the other winners from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia. After the weekly elimination rounds, the top 4 finalists will be heading to Singapore for a special final showcase concert for one last performance upon which the winner will be decided.
