Scarlet Heart’s 8th Prince ‘Wang Wook’ (Kang Ha Neul) was in town last weekend to promote the upcoming drama’s premiere on ONE, where he shared some fond memories of Singapore as well as his thoughts on starring in this fantasy-historical drama.
At the private press conference on 26th August, the star actor expressed that he was happy to be back in Singapore for the second time as he made great memories with fans who came to his Fan Meet on the previous visit.
A star-studded drama starring the nation’s little sister IU, Korean heartthrobs and flower boys Lee Joon Ki, Kang Ha Neul, Hong Jong Hyun, Baek Hyun (from EXO), Nam Joo Hyuk, and Ji Soo, Scarlet Heart is based on the remake of popular Chinese drama series 步步惊心.
Kang Ha Neul, who plays the 8th Prince ‘Wang Wook’ whom ‘Hae-soo’ (IU) falls in love with in the drama, mentioned that he knew about the Chinese series of Scarlet Heart (步步惊心) even before the Korean remake was announced because of its immense popularity, hence there was a lot of pressure that went into this production. However, the humble actor decided to give it a go and just enjoy the filming so that it would bring out his best ability for the drama, which the whole process turned out to be really enjoyable for him.
When asked what he likes the most about his character in Scarlet Heart, Kang Ha Neul answered that from a young age, Wang Wook would always do what he should do rather than what he truly wants to do despite his strong desire to experience other things. He feels that this sense of responsibility is the 8th Prince’s charm, adding on that “viewers can look forward to the visuals and aesthetics of the drama as it is set in the grand Goryeo dynasty”.
Kang Ha Neul also made a public appearance the following day at Waterway Point for a special Meet & Greet session where he played games with fans on stage, took photos and even had an autograph session for lucky fans and subscribers of ONE.
Kang Ha Neul was a good sport as he gave out many finger hearts to his adoring fans, or to his “sayangs”, a Singlish word he learnt onstage for Singapore fans. The charming actor made fans swoon with his fanservice during the onstage games where he gave fans backhugs, serenaded them and even took several selfies.
Before the memorable session came to an end, the actor expressed that he was already looking forward to his next visit to Singapore and he hoped that he can return soon. Since Scarlet Heart is premiering really soon, he hoped that viewers will enjoy the fun drama and stay tuned to the end.
Catch the premiere of Scarlet Heart first and exclusively on ONE (Singtel TV Ch 513 & 504, StarHub TV Ch 124, 820 & 823) with a 2-episode back-to-back special on 29 August 2016, 9pm (SGT)!
Airing at the same time slot as its telecast in Korea, Scarlet Heart will have subtitles in English, Chinese and Bahasa Malay every Monday and Tuesday at 9pm (SGT). Don’t forget to also catch Kang Ha Neul and his fellow cast members – Lee Joon Ki and Hong Jong Hyun on Running Man, which premieres 2 September 2016, Friday, at 11pm on ONE.
