Craving for some authentic taste of Korea? You got to check out Masizzim, Singapore’s first Korean stew restaurant, as they have recently introduced a brand new range of tantalising dishes to allow customers to have a taste of modern and authentic Korean cuisine!
We tried two versions of the Rice Ball (Crispy Anchovies and Tuna with Mayo) on our last visit, and this time Masizzim has rolled out an all-new Crab Meat & Roe Rice Ball which is essentially a deconstructed rice ball such that customers can have a go at making and customising their own rice ball. It contains snow crab meat, shrimp roe, Korean black rice and furikake.
The robust taste of crab meat dominates each bite, with the roe bursting in juicy deliciousness and the rice strengthening the texture of the dish. Overall, it makes for a tasty and fun DIY dish.
For stew lovers, you might want to try the Kimchi Beef Rib Soup which contains slow-cooked beef rib, radish and egg. The beef was first cooked in a pressure cooker, then further slow-cooked for another 6 hours, making it amazingly tender and mouth-watering. The taste of the beef was also instilled impeccably into the soup, making it super tasty and we couldn’t stop drinking it!
The Spicy Seafood Stew or Spicy Seafood Beef Stew is the main dish that groups of friends definitely must try together. It contains squid, mussels, prawns, crayfish and beef ribs for the beef stew version.
Choose between the 4 levels of spiciness, and either glass noodles or Korean udon in your stew. The stew brings forth a genuine flavours of Korean seafood stew, and absolutely delectable. The crayfish was firm and instilled with the taste of the stew, while the beef was soft and bursting with flavoursome juices, absorbed from the stew itself. Furthermore you can add cheese and extra rice cakes if you’re feeling famished!
For the side dishes, the Honey Mustard Cheese Egg Roll was our favourite and a match made in heaven for cheese-lovers! The rolled omelette was oozing with melted mozzarella and cheddar cheese, which was complemented perfectly with the honey mustard sauce, adding a sweet relish to each bite.
The Tuna Seaweed Egg Roll was stuffed with seaweed and tomato-flavoured tuna flakes, which tasted more mediocre compared to the Honey Mustard Cheese Egg Roll.
Make sure you don’t give it a miss for the Spicy Stir-Fried Pork – marinated pork belly slices stir-fried with carrots, onions, Masizzim’s special sweet and spicy sauce and topped a generous amount of sesame seeds. The pork belly slices went well with the carrots and onions, and the dish did not feel too greasy. The taste of the dish was well-balanced, and we recommend this for people craving pork belly!
We also got to try the Honey Slush Beer, which is basically Cass beer topped with icy beer slush and a drizzle of honey which is optional. While slowly savouring the beer, the slush melts into the beer and mixes with it, sweetening and enhancing the taste of the beer.
