With just four more days to Akdong Musician‘s first showcase AKMU STUDIO in Singapore, we are excited to share an email interview we had with the South Korean sibling duo Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Suhyun, whom have expressed their eagerness to meet Singapore fans this coming Friday (9th Dec).
Special thanks to local organisers Three Angles Production & IME Singapore for facilitating the email interview process, AKMU fans for sending us some questions, and of course, AKMU for their spontaneity. 🙂
Q: Have you ever thought about doing different genres of music? Are there any artists you would like to collaborate with?
Chanhyuk: Never. But I do have interest in other genre and want to try making songs in all genres some day. For artist collaboration, it would be different and fun regardless of who they are, but we still have a lot of things to do together as AKMU so we would like to focus on our music for the time being.
Q: How do you take care of your voices? Any tips to share with fans?
Suhyun: Actually, our parents often tell us to take care of our voices, but my brother really likes to drink soda which is not good for the voice. He still drinks it often though. I don’t have the habit of wearing muffler even though it’s really cold in South Korea now, but nowadays we have some shows so I’m trying to take care of my voice by wearing muffler during rehearsals.
Q: How do you harmonise so well with one another?
Chanhyuk: Maybe it’s because we are siblings? Sharing the same DNA…? (*Laughs*) Honestly, I don’t know. We have been singing together for so long so there are many similarities between both of us.
Q: Since both of you are siblings, what are some of the things that you do to annoy each other?
Suhyun: Whenever I want to make him (Chanhyuk) do something, I’d say “Mom said so“. For example, if our shoe shelf is too dirty but I don’t want to clean it, I’ll tell my brother “Mom told you to clean the shelf“. If I want to drink water, I’ll tell him “Mom wants to drink water” and he’d get it for me. He gets annoyed so much! (*Laughs*)
Q: Who often come up with your song ideas and concepts?
Suhyun: Chanhyuk writes all the songs so most of the background ideas and concepts came from him. Except for composing of music, we pretty much do everything together, like practising and singing.
Q: Which music video was most fun to film?
Suhyun: We enjoyed the filming process for all our music videos so every video was excited to shoot. For our 1st album’s music video, it was fun because it was our first time acting. For our 2nd music video, it was also fun because we could show our talent all in the video. But I was always the one to act as the main character in our previous MVs so I would like to see Chanhyuk acting more too. (*Laughs*)
Q: Since it’s winter season in South Korea now, what songs would you recommend fans to listen to during this season?
Both: We started listening to carols since it’s winter time now. Michael Buble’s carol is really good to listen at home or in the car. Last year, Ariana Grande’s ‘Santa Tell Me’ was our favourite song to listen to during winter.
Please give a shoutout to your Singapore fans.
Both: Finally we are coming to Singapore to meet all of you! It is so exciting and nervous for us, and we tried really hard to make great songs during this period. Let’s meet in Singapore and make great memories together!
