Introducing The Newest Street Style Trend from South Korea – Get Your FILA Disruptor II at Half the Price!

If you haven’t heard of the New Fila Disruptor II, it’s time to get educated with the newest street style trend from South Korea. Not many of us are willing to concur to our parents’ fashion choices, but you’ve got to admit — their vintage styles did sometimes make it into the modern world as fashion statements. The mom jeans trend is a great example, and we’re still rocking the dad-style baseball cap in 2018.

Great news if you’re a fan of the whole vintage, tacky-but-somewhat-chic style… There’s a newcomer making news in the street style department. Say hi to chunky, thick-soled “sports shoes” — endearingly known as “dad shoes”!

For most of its existence, it’s been labelled as the “uncle” trend; something that only unfashionable middle-aged men wear. Well, not anymore — at least not when big player sneaker house FILA decides to take it and morph it into their new FILA Disruptor II, aka our (not so) secret hypebeast’s desire.

Check out the different brand’s offerings of FILA Disruptor II below:

1. The Classic Whites

What has been the biggest upgrade from the “dad shoes” style is the soles. FILA has changed up the round base and instead included pointy jagged edges for the fiercer look. The all-white style is fully blanc, sans the FILA accents.

Popular Korea stars like IU and Kim Yoo Jung have also been seen donning a pair of FILA Disruptor II!

2. A Pop of Colour

Those who are looking for a pop of colour on an otherwise minimalist pair of shoes, go for the ones with orange / pink accents on the “highlight” points of the shoe – Final Disruptor Point 2.  The ankle guard, toe guard and back of the shoes also have light grey suede elements, one of the newest additions to the disruptor collection.

3. Holographic Strip

Ah yes, can’t ever leave out the holographic option! FILA has chosen the unorthodox route of having the iridescent strip along the mid toe portion of the shoe, like a rainbow trail. Rainbow road on the FILA Disruptor II? We love it!

4. Chic Metallics

Metallic gold for the over-the-top folk (nothing wrong there) and glossy patent black for the understated chic!

5. Back to Black

Black truly is the new black. If you’re one to exclusively wear black kicks, be sure to keep an eye out for these gorgeous black FILA Disruptor II! Pick your poison — the triple black boasts ebony toe to tip, while matte black comes with a contrasting white sole.

6. Millennial Pink

Last but not least, the coveted millennial pink FILA Disruptor II. Say what you want, but millennial pink will still be on our sneaker radars, forever and always.

The FILA Disruptor II can be found in Singapore but there are limited designs and can cost up to S$268! If you’re thinking of getting a pair for yourself, Airfrov your very own pair of FILA Disruptor II from South Korea today to save up to S$148!

Click on ‘Request Now‘ to simply put up a request on Airfrov, and a friendly traveller will help to fly your goods home! Enjoy an exclusive discount of up to S$10* off any of your Airfrov purchase from South Korea when you cart out and quote “HALLYU10“! (*Valid for both first-time and existing users)

[COVER] Hallyu stars Park Min Young and Kim Jong Kook Meet Fans At Samsung Galaxy Exclusive Launch Party

In celebration for the launch of the all-new Galaxy Note9 in Singapore, Samsung and Viu held an exclusive closed-door launch party last Friday for invited guests and media, which saw the unveiling of the latest Galaxy Note series as well as the special appearance of Park Min Young and Kim Jong Kook.

Both stars were present at the press conference that was held prior to the party, where they shared some of their favourite features of the Galaxy Note9 and spoke about their latest TV commitments.

Recently wrapped up the hit drama ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim‘, Park Min Young, who played the role of Secretary Kim Mi-so in the series, expressed her fond memories of working with the cast members and filming team, “The atmosphere on set was really good. We got close to one another while filming the drama, so we all had fun working on it.”

The drama was her first attempt in a rom-com (romantic-comedy) series as she acted as a professional secretary alongside Park Seo Joon, who played the role of her narcissistic boss. There were lots of ad-libs by the cast members during filming, which turned out to be very well-received.

Park Min Young also added that she tries to keep in touch with the cast members through their group chat, revealing that actress Hwang Bo-ra has similar traits to her character ‘Bong Se-ra’ as she is most active in the group chat.

“We will be having a reward vacation for the drama cast and crew in Thailand soon, so I think that the group chat will be flooded again during our vacation.”

On her favourite feature of the new Galaxy Note9, Park Min Young mentioned about the S Pen where she can easily use it to write down memo on the phone screen. One application that she uses frequently on her phone would be the camera function, as she enjoys taking pictures in her daily life.

She also uses apps like Instagram and Weibo to communicate with the fans, revealing that she often search for her own name on the social media platforms, “When I travel, I often take selfies with people. So I wanted to check out how my face will look like on other people’s camera.” Though she is currently taking a break and does not have any drama project in mind for the second half of the year, the actress is still keeping her options open, as she thanked fans and audience for their unconditional love toward her drama roles.

Back in Singapore again after 8 months, Kim Jong Kook was one of the special stars to make an appearance at the press conference and launch party. Revealed to be a smartphone addict himself, the Hallyu star admitted that he can’t live without his phone and tend to feel anxious whenever he can’t access it for hours during the shoot for Running Man.

His favourite feature of the new Galaxy Note9 is the longer battery life, which enables him to use his phone all day without having to bring out a power bank to recharge it.

Being actively involved in variety shows such as Running Man and Mom’s Diary, Kim Jong Kook said he has plans to focus on releasing a new album this year. He also expressed his hopes to collaborate with younger idol groups and singers, such as BTS because “they are good at everything!

Despite his busy TV commitments, he made sure to keep a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle by working out frequently, which is of course not something surprising to hear.

“A lot of people think I only eat chicken breast meat but I actually do consume all kinds of food. It is just that after my workout, I tend to go for healthier options such as that and salad. I even have cheat days where I had a whole cream cake to myself!”

If he could invite a former guest to reappear on Running Man again, the Sparta would like to extend the invitation to Jackie Chan, as he recounted the surreal experience of filming together with the superstar in 2013.

Kim Jong Kook also expressed his desire to film a second season of travel reality show Dragon Club with his celebrity friends as he added, “We all talked about it several times but the Dragon Club members are all busy with their movie or drama shoots. We really hope to film an episode together again.”

At the Samsung Galaxy Exclusive Launch Party that was held in the same evening, some lucky fans were invited to join the stars on stage for games and photo opportunities. The stars also had the opportunity to experience using the latest Galaxy Note9, with Kim Jong Kook drawing sketches for fans to guess using the S Pen, and Park Min Young showing off her wefie skills with the smartphone.

Though its release date has not been confirmed, the Samsung Galaxy Note9 smartphone can now be preordered through the telcos in Singapore.

Catch Park Min Young on ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim‘ and Kim Jong Kook on ‘Running Man‘, ‘Mom’s Diary‘ and ‘Dragon Club (Season 1)’ on Viu.com or via the Viu app!

[K-DRAMA] All-star cast makes the difference in hit Netflix Original K-drama Mr. Sunshine

As one of the most popular and talked about K-dramas of today, Mr. Sunshine, created by the writer and director of Descendants of the Sun and Goblin (Guardian: The Lonely and Great God), is grabbing the attention of audience through a beautiful yet sad story of the Choseon era in Korea while highlighting the romance between the characters in the period of change and confusion. New episodes of Mr. Sunshine are available every Saturday and Sunday on the same day of broadcast, only on Netflix.

The story of the series focuses on Shinmiyangyo, or the U.S. expedition to Korea in the late 19th century, where a boy born into a family of slaves runs away to board an American warship after witnessing his parents forced to death. He returns 30 years later as a U.S. marine officer to his home country that had abandoned him but now in need of his help.

Along with the dazzling cinematography by the all-star creators of Kim Eun-sook and Lee Eung-bok, Mr. Sunshine has also been praised by the strong cast it features. The five main cast of the series all have a unique yet connected story of their own and are intertwined in love and hatred, appealing to the wider audience.

Lee Byung-hun, known as Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe series and Han Cho Bai in Red2, plays the role of U.S. Marine officer Captain Eugene Choi, who was originally born into the family of slaves and had no choice but to run away after witnessing his parents forced to death in front of him.

Eugene comes back as a U.S. Marine officer filled with hatred towards his mother country, but ironically falls in love with Ae-sin, daughter of an aristocrat and a member of the resistance. While Eugene had no intention to protect the troubled Choseon, he feels his love for Ae-sin becoming bigger than his hatred towards Choseon.

Kim Tae-ri, who came into the spotlight as Sook-hee in The Handmaiden, plays Go Ae-sin, the noble aristocrat’s daughter and a member of the resistance whose love for the country overweighs anything else. Ae-sin falls in love with Eugene as she is fascinated at the Korean looking American by his confidence and how Eugene can take action on what he feels is right.

Ae-sin lives a double life, both as a calm aristocrat’s daughter during the day and a resistance member at night, pulling the trigger for what she feels in right.

Yoo Yeon-seok as Gu Dong-mae in Mr. Sunshine (Photo Courtesy of Hwa&Dam/Netflix)

Yoo Yeon-seok, who made an impactful debut in Oldboy and took on popular roles including Chilbong in Reply 1994, is the fearful Gu Dong-mae, the leader of Musin Society, which is a Japanese samurai group.

Dong-mae was born into a butcher’s family which was sometimes considered lower than slaves and harassed by everyone in his childhood. Ae-sin saves Dong-mae’s life as Dong-mae was being hunted down, and he later runs away to Japan to later return to Choseon as the leader of a samurai group that will do anything for money.

Kim Min-jung as Hina Kudo in Mr. Sunshine (Photo Courtesy of Hwa&Dam/Netflix)

Kim Min-jung, who has been in numerous titles debuting when she was a young child, plays Kudo Hina, the owner of Hotel Glory that becomes an important location for all characters in the series.

Hina is a woman who stays strong against any threat and befriends Dong-mae for protection, while at the same time developing a feeling of love towards Eugene Choi. She is the daughter of Lee Wan-ik, a pro-Japanese who sold her over to an old Japanese man for marriage, and she shows her hatred towards her father continuously.

Byun Yo-han as Kim Hui-seong in Mr. Sunshine (Photo Courtesy of Hwa&Dam/Netflix)

Byun Yo-han, popular for his role in Misaeng: Incomplete Life, plays Kim Hui-seong, who is Ae-sin’s fiancé and at the same time the grandson of the aristocrat that is responsible for the death of Eugene’s parents. While originally taking no interest in the life in Choseon, he immediately falls in love with his fiancé, who was pre-arranged by his parents, and fights hard to show and protect his love towards Ae-sin.

Have you been catching up the series of Mr. Sunshine? New episodes of the hit drama will be aired every Saturday and Sunday on the same day of broadcast, only on Netflix.

7 Survival Tips for HallyuPopFest 2018

We are less than a month’s time away from South East Asia’s biggest K-pop music festival, HallyuPopFest 2018! There are lots of anticipation for the upcoming event with many fans expected to fly in from the neighbouring cities, as this is the first time for such a large-scale K-pop music festival to be staged in Singapore. Whether you are a first time attendee or a veteran fan of K-pop music festivals, here are some survival tips that you should prep yourself up for the upcoming 3-day festival!

1. Bring your Tickets

First and foremost, ticket is definitely the most important item that you should never forget or lose on the actual event day! We know this is an obvious one, but it’s always a good reminder! You wouldn’t want to end up missing out on your favourite idols’ live performances, which you have been counting down to since day 1.

Especially for the upcoming HallyuPopFest, every ticket holder will be entitled access to the same-day afternoon showcases and evening concert, so be sure to bring along both tickets/e-ticket printouts!

2. Be Punctual & Don’t Forget your Portable Charger

Arrive on time or be early before the respective shows commence so that you don’t miss out any part of the opening and can enjoy other on-site activities like the daily afternoon showcases and red carpet event

Many fans end up draining their phone battery because they were bored waiting in line for admission or sharing their excitement on social media. So don’t forget to bring a portable charger with you! Get ready your fully charged phones and snap all you want at the daily Red Carpet event which will be open to the public outside Indoor Stadium — you might even capture the shot of your favourite idols striking their most stylish or unique poses on the red carpet! Don’t forget to join the hype by sharing these photos on social media with the official hashtag #HallyuPopFest during the festival.

3. Light Sticks

What’s a K-pop music festival without light sticks? Every K-pop fan will know that light stick is an essential concert item and it’d be such a beautiful sight to see different fandoms lighting up the stadium with their official fan colors and waving together to the music they love, along with thousands of like-minded K-pop fans! Whether it’s official or unofficial light sticks, it’s always good to have one with you.

4. Practise your Fan-chants

Besides waving light sticks, fan-chant is another way of showing support for your favourite idols. Though the performance set list is unknown to us, you can check out the Top 5 songs that were voted most popular by fans who wish to catch those performances at HallyuPopFest. (Click on the respective artiste profiles here to check out the voting results!)

Are you familiar with most of the fan-chants for your bias group(s)? Fret not, you still have a few more weeks to practise and get yourself ready!

5. Collect all the Fan Goodies and Participate in Fan Projects

One thing we really admire and respect about the K-pop fan culture is their unwavering love for the artistes and idol groups, where fans go out of their way to print hand-held banners for fan projects, or prepare free goodies to distribute for fellow fans, such as photocards, stickers and more. Most of these freebies are given out by them on the event day on a first-come-first-serve basis, so if you’re a fan of certain groups or artistes, make sure you stay well connected on social media (especially Twitter) to find out whether any fanclubs or fans will be distributing any goodies.

6. Stay Hydrated

Keep yourself hydrated at all times! The music festival will be a full-day event (though there will be breaks in between), so make sure you drink lots of water before, during, and after the festival so that you don’t pass out in the middle of your favorite song. That’s the last thing anyone would ever want to happen to themselves.

You can find out more information of the festival schedule here.

7. Respect All Performing Acts

Last but not least, we know that you might be the biggest fan of certain artiste or group, but do also show support to other performing acts because ultimately you’d want to give a good and lasting impression of Singapore to the artistes and idol groups.

Also be considerate of others around you, because rowdy behaviour such as pushing or cutting in line/queue will most likely get you nowhere! Avoid bringing bulky items to the stadium as there will be bag checks and security checks at the venue, with limited storage space available. The point is, let’s all enjoy the festival to the fullest! 😉
