Prior to their first ever Fanmeeting “1st ABNEW in Singapore”, AB6IX made an appearance at the open press conference last Saturday (27 July) at The Star Vista, where the quintet was welcomed by an amphitheatre of fans cheering passionately for them.
At the press conference, the boys answered some questions about their time in Singapore, first impressions of one another, their TMIs (Too Much Information) of the day, and more.
Out of the 5 members, Woong was the only one who had never visited Singapore prior to this trip. When asked if there’s any local food he’d been looking forward to try, he mentioned Kaya Toast and Pandan Cake among the ones that he’d heard rave reviews about.
On the other hand, Dae Hwi also talked about his huge love for chilli crabs, revealing that they had this dish the night before where they ate all the way till the restaurant closed at 12 midnight.
The press conference also included a fun segment called the AB-Pick, where members were to pick amongst themselves and choose the one that best represents the questions asked.
Woong was selected by the majority as the member who is in charge of aegyo (cuteness) in the group, while Woo Jin was voted to represent the sexiness of the team.
On their first impressions of one another, Young Min mentioned that Woong looked very approachable as he has a very bright smile, while Woong revealed that his initial impression of Dae Hwi was a born celebrity.
Dae Hwi further shared that even though Woo Jin was quiet at first, he is now in fact the noisiest member, often the mood maker of the group.
When asked by the fans to share their TMIs of the day, Woo Jin said he was the last member to have his hair and makeup done, whereas Dong Hyun casually talked about having chocolates after he woke up that morning.
The press conference concluded with a question specifically directed to Dong Hyun as the MC asked, “Who is Ahn Jeong Soon?” It brought the crowd to fits of laughter at the mention of this fictional character, to which Dong Hyun revealed that it was made by accident during a game he played recently in a variety programme.
Sunscreen is arguably the most important product in one’s skincare routine. Not only does it prevent premature ageing of your skin, it also helps protect your skin from damage caused by harmful UV rays, so it’s not surprising why sunscreen is a staple for many. If you have not made sunscreen a part of your daytime skincare routine, it’s not too late to do so. You’ll definitely be thanking yourself years later for taking the extra time (and spending the extra money) to protect your skin. Ahead, a list of Korean suncare products you can consider getting.
Dr.G

This sun cream is one that is tinted, helping to brighten and correct your skin tone. It’s quite lightweight and doesn’t feel sticky or greasy, plus it gives your skin a matte finish after application. Dr.Jart+

The Every Sun Day Mild Sun SPF 43 PA+++ from the brand was the first sunscreen I’ve ever purchased, and it has definitely served me well. This product protected my skin well during all the university camps I’ve recently attended, especially when we had beach days and had to be in the sun for quite some time. If you’d like that extra protection, consider the Every Sun Day Sun Fluid which boasts a higher SPF rating of SPF50+ PA+++ and also protects your skin from UV rays and fine dust.
Available at all Sephora stores.
Etude House
Sunprise Mild Airy Finish SPF50+ PA+++, $22
This sebum-free, non-sticky sun milk uses only mineral-based mild ingredients, making it suitable for those with sensitive skin. If you have oily skin and have problems finding a sunscreen that won’t leave your face looking greasy, then you might want to try using this product. As this product might dry out your skin a little, it’s more suitable for those with oily skin rather than for those with dry skin.
Available at all Etude House stores.

For all the cushion compact lovers out there, this might just be the product for you. GFRIEND is a group comprising 6 girls from Source Music. Debuted in 2015 and with a successful career spanning close to 5 years, these girls are definitely one of Korea’s current representative girl groups. Well known for their explosive vocals, sleek dance moves and addictive tunes, the sextet has finally made their way back to Singapore to greet their local fans after a long 1,050 days.
And boy, did they not disappoint on their latest visit. Over the span of almost 3 hours, local Buddies (the name of their fans) were taken on a wild ride along with the girls. Starting off the night’s show on a high note with their infectiously cheery tracks, GFRIEND made their long-awaited appearance onstage wearing bright pastel, coordinated outfits while dancing to well-known hits such as “Me Gustas Tu”, “Life Is A Party”, “Vacation” and more.
Riding onto that energetic momentum, GFRIEND also gave Buddies a glimpse into their lives pre-debut when they showcased never-before-seen performances halfway into the set. Split into two different sub-units, “World Peace” and “Hug Hug”, the contrasting concepts gave fans a chance to know more about the group’s could-bes and what-ifs.
The former, which consisted of members SinB, Sowon, and Yuju had an edgier and chicer concept, while the latter, which consisted of Eunha, Yerin, and Umji had a more flamboyant, playful one. Accompanied with a humorous VCR that depicted the behind stories of each of the group names and songs, this portion was definitely a hit with the crowd as they entranced us with their adorable antics.
Though the concert began with a refreshing and youthful vibe, as the night went on, the girls made a 180-degree change to show off a more mature yet refined style and color of theirs. Versatility at its finest, we were impressed at their abilities to pull off a variety of styles without compromising on both their song and dance quality.
For one, we are very sure that their performances of “Only 1”, “L.U.V.” and “You Are Not Alone” blew the crowd away. Their ability to bring out the emotions of the song while dancing to those body busting routines was definitely one outstanding highlight to remember.
Even after performing all those crazy dance routines, GFRIEND always made it a point to interact with their fans as much as they possibly could. Occasionally, members would come right up to the edge of the stage to get closer to their fans while waving and blowing kisses nonstop. So much so that I’m pretty sure every fan walked away with at least something to remember them by.
There was just one portion of the concert that left us and the other fans quite unsatiated, and it was when GFRIEND did not perform their latest track “Fever (열대야)” as it was not on the original setlist. However, not wanting to disappoint the eager crowd, the girls performed a small snippet of the tropical-influenced dance track – Acoustic. They didn’t have the audio track for the song due to some technical difficulties but seriously, props to them for knowing their fans so well and giving them what they want.
Overall, the concert was a feast for the ears and the eyes. The girls were outstanding, the setlist was mostly well planned out and we learned so much about the group. Here’s to hoping they will visit our sunny shores again in the very near future!
One of tvN’s most buzz-worthy dramas of the year, Hotel Del Luna has been setting high records for its telecast rating every episode, blowing viewers’ minds away with its incredible CG effects and intriguing storyline.
Starring a stellar line-up of cast including IU, Yeo Jin Goo, P.O, Kang Mina and more, this drama revolves around two main characters Jang Man-wol (played by IU), the CEO of Hotel Del Luna who has been stuck there for 1,000 years, and Gu Chan-seong (played by Yeo Jin Goo), the hotel’s newly appointed manager. Together with the hotel staff, they run Hotel Del Luna, a hotel for dead souls.
As the story progresses, the drama also captures the attention of many with its lavish and majestic shooting sets, and you’ll be surprised to learn that some of the places where the scenes were filmed, actually do exist in real life despite the amazing CG effects! If you’re a fan of Hotel Del Luna, here are some filming locations or official event places you must check out when in Korea:

1. Hotel SEINE (호텔 세느장)
Unlike what its name suggests, this place is not a hotel. Named “Hotel SEINE”, it is an actual cafe that is operating in the trendy Ikseon-dong neighbourhood in Seoul, opened since November 2018.
Built with 6 floors in total (including a rooftop lounge and a boutique in the basement), the hotel-themed cafe looks unassuming on the outside, but once you step in, you’ll be welcomed with the cozy and vintage interior like no other.
(Pic Cr: Naver Blog @ tact_1663, yja03206)
The cafe’s appearance resembles that of the Grand Budapest Hotel and its interior is absolutely photo-worthy. Visitors will be greeted with a stretch of red carpet at the entrance of the cafe, before they make their way to the “hotel lobby” where the concierge counter is.
(Pic Cr: IG @cafe_seinejang)
Don’t be fooled by its appearance though – this is where the baristas actually work, as customers can place their coffee and dessert orders here before exploring the cafe. We must say, this concept is really interesting and creative – it explains why they have an endless stream of customers visiting the cafe since its opening!
(Pic Cr: Naver Blog @ subb1832, yeyes24, 2mkh2)
Besides the “hotel lobby” and a bakery on the first floor, Hotel SEINE also houses a cake factory and an art salon on the second and third levels respectively. Visitors can find traces of Hotel Del Luna in the cafe, including a photo zone on the third floor as pictured below:

Interestingly or coincidently, the rooftop lounge is named “Full Moon Rooftop Lounge”, just like IU’s character name Man-wol (= full moon).
(Screencap from Episode 11 of Hotel Del Luna)(Screencap from Episode 11 of Hotel Del Luna)
In Episode 11, several scenes were filmed at Hotel SEINE, which represented Hotel Del Luna in the 1980s where they accepted a pair of human guests/newlyweds during the Lunar Eclipse day.

A newly opened complex since March 27 this year, Seoul Book Bogo is the nation’s first public secondhand bookstore located near Jamsillaru Station. It was featured as a ghost library in Episode 2 of Hotel Del Luna, and it looks exactly fascinating in reality:
(Pic Cr: Naver Blog @ punkpp)(Pic Cr: Naver Blog @ punkpp)

3. Kyungsung Clothes (경성의복)
Ever wonder how many different outfits IU changes every now and then in each episode? You can now rent fanciful outfits similar to those that she wore at Kyungsung Clothes, a clothes rental shop that is currently having a Hotel Del Luna photo event in its premises.
(Pic Cr: IG @ kyungsungclothes and tvN)
They have 2 shops in Seoul, both located near each other. Costume rental starts from ₩30,000 for 3 hours, and it is recommended to make reservations through email. More details can be found on their website here (in Korean only).

4. Paradise City (파라다이스시티)
This is the “Royal Pacific Hotel” that Gu Chan-seong was supposed to work at, where he later ditched the job to fill the manager position at Hotel Del Luna. One would easily recall the iconic scene in Episode 2 of the drama, where Chan-seong ultimately decided to fall right into the swimming pool to avoid any contact with the female ghost that he was so terrified of.
(Pic Cr: tvN)(Screencap from Episode 1 of Hotel Del Luna)
The drama also shot scenes at the lobby of Paradise City in Incheon, which was shown in Episode 1 and 2.
(Screencap from Episode 8 of Hotel Del Luna)
Most recently, the resort’s indoor family amusement park “Wonderbox” was featured in Episode 8 of Hotel Del Luna. Newly opened its doors on March 31 this year, this theme park takes the concept of a “night-time amusement park”, perfectly fitting into the scenes of the drama. Lots of facilities such as a Ferris wheel, Carousel, Carnival games and more can be found here.
Address: 186, Yeongjonghaeannam-ro 321-gil, Jung-gu, Incheon, Korea (영종해안남로321번길 186, 중구, 인천) Getting here: From Incheon International Airport, board Bus No. 302, 306A or 306 towards Yongyu Elementary School, alight at Grand Hyatt Incheon and walk towards Paradise City (~5mins).

5. Mokpo Modern History Museum No.1 (목포근대역사관, 1관)
Hotel Del Luna appears ordinary on the outside yet extraordinary inside, and it is this brick building that first aroused Gu Chan-seong’s curiosity to enter the premises. This is the entrance to Hotel Del Luna and the scenes of the hotel’s exterior were shot at the front of Mokpo Modern History Museum No.1.
Designed in Renaissance style, this is the oldest building in the city of Mokpo, accessible by KTX 2.5 hours from Seoul. The museum relays the modern history of Mokpo and it used to be a Japanese consulate during the Japanese Occupation.
(Pic Cr: Naver Blog @ 2012iae)(Pic Cr: IG @ hyye___)
Interesting to note, the ivy vines around the building were installed for filming purposes to make the “hotel” look even more mysterious after CG effects. There is currently a signage on display there, which indicates that these extra props will be removed once the drama ends.
Address: 6 Yeongsan-ro 29-beongil, Daeui-dong 2-ga, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do 전라남도 목포시 영산로29번길 6 (전라남도 목포시 대의동2가 1-5) Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 – 18:00 (Closed on Mondays) Getting here: Take a KTX to Mokpo Station and walk to the museum. (~13 mins)

6. Changhwadang — Daehakno Branch (창화당 대학로점)
Watching Jang Man-wol (IU) eating the dumplings is like watching a Mukbang (eating broadcast) and the next moment we know, we’re already craving for the dumplings she had.
(Pic Cr: IG @ movigo_trip)
This scene in Episode 1 of Hotel Del Luna was filmed at the Daehakno Branch of Changhwadang, a famous Chinese dumpling restaurant located at Myeongnyun 4(sa)ga in the Jongno District of Seoul. They have several branches in Seoul and are most popular for their dumpling dishes.
Jang Man-wol even dedicated her first post on Instagram to the dumplings!
If you visit this particular branch, you can find out where CEO Jang Man-wol sat during the shoot too. A smart move by the restaurant!
Address: (Daehakno Branch) 39 Changgyeonggung-ro 26-gil, Myeongnyun 4(sa)ga, Jongno-gu, Seoul 서울특별시 종로구 창경궁로26길 39 1층 (서울특별시 종로구 명륜4가 154-3) Getting here: Alight at Hyehwa Station (Line 4) and walk from Exit 3. (~5 mins)

Garimseong Fortress, also known as Seongheungsanseong Fortress (성흥산성), is a historical site that overlooks the lower stretch of Geum River. The stone fortress traces back to the Baekje Dynasty and holds an important history as it was built to protect the Ungjinseong Fortress / Sabiseong Fortress (Baekje’s capital) during the Baekje era.
(Screencap from Episode 4 of Hotel Del Luna)
Several scenes were shot here featuring the famous Zelkova tree, which is a very popular hotspot for photoshoot (especially among couples). The tree briefly appeared in Episode 3 and 4 – in Gu Chan-seong’s dreams – where Jang Man-wol was seen smiling at Chung-myung and Yeon-woo, then later resting by herself under the tree.
In Episode 5, she reunites with Yeon-woo here once again, as he tells her that he’ll build the biggest house for her with this tree that she loves. This is how the tree looks like in real life:
(Pic Cr: IG @ cksgml0117)(Pic Cr: IG @ s.bnee)
Fun-fact: This tree actually has a nickname too. It’s called Sarang Namu (사랑나무) and people usually refer it as “Mt. Seongheungsan Love Tree”. It has been featured in numerous dramas such as The Crowned Clown (2019), I’m Not A Robot (2017-2018), My Sassy Girl (2017), Iljimae (2008), and many more.

Sanchez’s restaurant, also known as Pizza Alvolo, is an actual pizza restaurant with the same name operating near Yangpyeong Station (Line 5) in Seoul. Do not be confused with the other Yangpyeong Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line. This station is along Seoul metro’s Line 5 and it’s located near Yeouido.

There are several franchise outlets for Pizza Alvolo, but if you’re looking to visit the particular branch where the drama was filmed, it’s the one near Yangpyeong Station. They serve a huge variety of Korean pizzas, including the one that Jang Man-wol had in Episode 12, which is called 꿈을피자 (Ggumeul Pizza).

13. C156
Shown in a couple of episodes as Seol Ji-won’s hideout, this place is actually a fairly new restaurant located in Seoul’s H Avenue Hotel (Kondae Branch). Operating since 2018, C156 houses an American style bar & dining on the basement level (hence named C156 Underground), a 24-hour fitness facility, and a rooftop lounge bar & pool that offers great views overlooking Seongsu-dong and Konkuk University streets.
The H Avenue Hotel itself is also worth a mention as its interior design was said to be inspired from the film ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, recreating impressions of vintage-looking Eastern European buildings.

South Korean girl group TWICE was in town last Saturday (13 July) for the Singapore stop of their “TWICELIGHTS” concert tour which was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. This visit marked the third time TWICE met with their fans (ONCEs) in Singapore, as they kicked off the night on an explosive note with rock-esque performances of “Stuck In My Head” and “Cheer Up”.
The energy continued as the group put their own unique feminine twist on The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”, which was followed by “Dance The Night Away”, the perfect summer track!
The girls also performed mellow tracks such as “You In My Heart”, where fans waved their phone flashlights, lighting up the entire stadium. It was a beautiful sight, and definitely created such a warm atmosphere for TWICE and ONCEs alike.
They brought the energy up again with the unit performances, where fans were treated to a sexy performance of Beyoncé’s “Dance For You” by Sana, Dahyun and Tzuyu.
Jihyo and Momo performed a unique and powerful choreography to Taemin’s “Goodbye”, and Nayeon, Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung closed with “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga.
TWICE then continued with more fan favourites — “Likey”, “What Is Love”, “Like Ooh-Ahh”, “TT”, and their latest title track “Fancy”’. This was the first time the group performed “Fancy” in Singapore, and ONCEs responded with the loudest fanchants ever!
After the fan project where ONCEs reassured TWICE how precious each member is, and how thankful they are to the group, the girls were visibly touched and poured their hearts out to their fans.
Nayeon found that night especially memorable and she said that she will never forget it, promising to come back to Singapore again. Tzuyu expressed her gratitude to ONCEs for always giving them strength, and that she will return the love by performing on stage. Chaeyoung also reassured fans that TWICE will be back as nine members soon, and asked fans to just wait a little longer.
On that note, TWICELIGHTS in Singapore drew to a close as the group performed “Stuck”, whilst going to all ends of the stadium to wave goodbye to their ONCEs.
TWICE has proven yet again that they are one of the top girl groups in the industry and that they are here to stay. We absolutely cannot wait to see what greater heights the future has in store for them!
