The first Monday of May is here again.
This time of the year, all eyes are on who scored a coveted invite to fashion’s biggest night out, the MET Gala. Among the star-studded turnout in New York, Korean stars like Blackpink‘s Jennie Kim, Song Hye-kyo and Jackson Wang caught our eye with their dazzling debut.
The annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art is held on the first Monday in May.
The event’s theme this year is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ honouring the late Karl Lagerfeld. Fashion legend Lagerfeld was the creative tour de force behind Chanel, and he handpicked Jennie Kim as an ambassador for the fashion house.
Blackpink’s Jennie: The Human Chanel

It’s no surprise that the K-pop star Jennie transformed into the “Human Chanel” on the MET Gala red carpet.
Decked top to toe in Chanel’s chic aesthetics, Jennie wore a Vintage Chanel mini dress inspired by Lagerfeld’s 1990s ready-to-wear collection. The white satin dress’ winning detail was fastened onto her black belt, a white camellia.
She looked effortlessly chic with the same iconic flower of Chanel in her hair.
Jackson Wang in Louis Vuitton

K-pop sensation Jackson Wang paid homage by incorporating elements of Lagerfeld’s signature style.
Donning the fashion’s doyen favoured colour, Wang turned up in an all-black ensemble, a bespoke Louis Vuitton suit complete with gloves and sunglasses.
Song Hye-kyo: A vision of beauty

Korean actress Song Hye Kyo was a vision of beauty on the red carpet.
Fresh from her Baeksang Arts Awards win, she glowed in a Fendi gown, a soft pink satin dress interwoven with lace. A regular feature at global fashion shows, Song was at ease at her first appearance at the Oscars of fashion events.
The quiet confidence she exuded had us imagining her sending a subtle message to her on-screen enemy from the “The Glory” — “Yeon Jin, I’ve made it to the MET Gala”.
