Blackpink will play in our area this weekend after a four-year wait. They last held their In Your Area tour at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in 2019.
Ahead of their much-awaited (and very much sold-out) 2-day Born Pink world tour this weekend, here are four things to know about the iconic girl group.
1. Every member is a fashion icon
The Blackpink girls are at the forefront of fashion trends. And their outfits show: whether it is an extravagant performance fashion piece or just casual wear to the airport.
Every member is also an ambassador for a luxury brand. They can be easily spotted at the front rows of fashion shows held by these brands.
Their influence on the fashion industry also landed them in various major fashion magazines like Vogue Korea, Elle Korea and Harper’s Bazaar Korea.
Member Jennie also recently made her MET Gala debut in a Vintage Chanel mini dress inspired by Lagerfeld’s 1990s ready-to-wear collection, solidifying her reputation as a fashion icon.
2. Blackpink is the first-ever K-pop group to headline Coachella
In 2019, Blackpink made history as the first-ever K-pop group to perform at a U.S. music festival. Fast-forward to 2023, they are now the first K-pop act to ever headline Coachella.

This amazing feat proved to be a game-changer for them, bringing their popularity to another level — as if it wasn’t already insanely high. The quartet was the talk of the town after delivering electrifying and charismatic performances.
Here’s the catch: they rehearsed and delivered the performances in the midst of their ongoing world tour.
3. Blackpink was not always “Blackpink”
Interestingly, the group was originally named Pink Punk before they debuted. Long-time fans may have been a part of the discourse in 2016 when there was widespread uncertainty about the name.

The name was later changed to the now-ear-catching “Blackpink”.
It was probably an appropriate move, as the name Blackpink best reflected the group’s versatility. The girls have proved to us that they can effortlessly transition from a cute and girlish image to a powerful and edgy one.
4. Blackpink’s members are pet lovers
Blackpink members are also known for their love of pets.
In total, the quartet is estimated to have at least 11 pet animals with a mix of cats and dogs, and even fish.
Contributing over half of this number is the youngest member, Lisa, who has an entire Instagram handle dedicated for her pets: Lfamily.
It is dedicated to posting all her adorable pets whom have L-starting names like their owner, displaying her love as a mum to her 5 felines and 1 dog.

In the third episode of Blackpink’s variety series Blackpink House, Rosé also cried over her pet fish, Eunhee. She heard of its death over a video call with her mother. Her soft spot for her pets shone through in the short segment.
