2023 Lee Seung Gi Asia Tour The Dreamer’s Dream – Chapter 2 Concert in Singapore
Resorts World Ballroom
14 June 2023

Lee Seung-gi is back in Singapore for his Asia tour, titled The Dreamer’s Dream – Chapter 2. Held at the Resorts World Ballroom, the concert on Wednesday (14 Jun) marks his first official post-pandemic visit to Singapore.

His last was way back in 2019, as part of his Asia fan meeting Vagabond Voyage, at the Singapore Expo. Then, he promoted his action series while interacting with fans through games, and performed some of his top tracks live.

The keyword here is some. Perhaps, he was saving the best of his vocals for his recent full-fledged concert in 2023.

You might know of Lee from series like Vagabond (2019) and My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho (2010).

But his vocal prowess does not fall behind his acting chops. Here are three highlights from the two-hour-long concert.

1. Lee fights cold to bring out his best vocals live

Lee effortlessly belted out high notes in various tracks despite having a cold that day.

Ironically, Lee is not a full-time vocalist. After all, he dedicates a large portion of his time to acting as well.

But one track where Lee’s vocals really shone through was Return (2012), a song that talks about feeling of longing . It’s a song that he has to deliver every tour, according to Lee himself.

“In 2012, two songs took South Korea by storm, the first was PSY’s Gangnam Style (2012) and the other was Return”, he confidently claimed.

He also touched on why he chose to hold a concert this time, instead of a fan-meet.

Lee explained: “Although a fan meet is fun because I get to play games and interact with fans, performing at a concert is what makes me the happiest as a singer”.

2. From sentimental ballads to rock songs, he’s a versatile singer

Lee might be known as the ballad prince for these addictive and emotional tunes he had pushed out over the years.

But it doesn’t do justice to the 36-year-old multihyphenate to sweep off his diverse repertoire that highlights his versatility as a singer. One who’s been in the industry for 19 years.

In the two-hour-long show, Lee did serve up quite a variety of tracks. There were sentimental ballads like Wind (2015) to rock songs like Circle (2022). Throughout, he also has a band that plays live for him.

Many know him as a ballad singer, but he’s well aware that his fans prefer rock. “I never go to the extreme, [so I] plan to include both genres in the next album,” he wittily revealed about the upcoming album that commemorates his 20th anniversary as a singer.

3. Chapter 2 and beyond?

True to the name of the concert tour, Lee talked about his recent chapter, and his future plans.

Lee thought that there would be “nothing else to do”, and no new challenges when he hits his 20th anniversary back then when he just started out as a singer. “But now, I am realising that there is so much I still want to do and this is just the beginning,” he said.

The second chapter is about to unfold. And moving forward, Lee is only focused on “things that make [him] happy”.
