Show Review

The Boyz played their second show in Singapore on Thursday (20 Jul) at The Star Theatre. It was part of their Zeneration world tour.
The eleven-piece band showed their love for the country. And the food available — Chilli Crab in particular. But the group made it known that their love for their fans is more than the love they have for the delicacy. Talk about a bold statement.
For their second show in Singapore, not all members performed onstage. An hour before the show, his agency, IST Entertainment said that member Eric “fell down the stairs while preparing” for the show.

Nonetheless, here are some highlights of what went down during the 2½-hour setlist.
1. Awesome stamina
The boys were all full of energy from the beginning till the end of the show.
At some point, they voiced their concerns about the possibility of being tired. After all, they have performed for prolonged periods during their world tour.
But they did not disappoint their fans with the energy they brought forth.

In fact, unlike many other groups, The Boyz proved themselves to be noteworthy performers by performing four upbeat songs, like Ego (2020) and Reveal (2020) with challenging choreographies all in one shot with no break in between songs.
2. A+ fan interactions
With so many faces in the crowd, it’s easy to overlook fan interactions.
However, the group took the time to interact with fans by reading their fan boards. The comical bunch wished fans happy birthday and congratulated another for graduating school. They even wanted to invite a baby onstage.
Member Kevin also shared a personal story with fans, on how he relates to every single one of them as he was in the same shoes as them. When he queued for tickets (his first concert was Pentatonix), he recalled leaving class early to secure himself front-row views at the concert.
3. A concert or a rave party?
The Boyz’s discography is known for upbeat tempos that can get the crowd moving. Which was exactly what went on.

The group encouraged fans to get onto their feet and chant lyrics to their hit numbers like D.D.D (2019) and Maverick (2021).
Fans took it one step further by jumping to the beat and waving their lightsticks around.
4. Varying concepts — lighthearted to dark ones
The Boyz have got many different facades to show their fans, with different concepts ranging from innocent and lighthearted to darker and heavier ones.
A large curtain was draped across the stage to project patterns for their songs with whimsical and dream-like concepts, like the medley of Lucid Dream (2018), Daydream (2019), Butterfly (2019) and Wings (2020).
To signal a change in concept, the curtains dropped dramatically. And the group emerged in a new set of costumes that matched the darker concept with tunes like Nightmares (2021) and Russian Roulette (2021).
