Everything you need to know about SM Entertainment’s newest boy band, RIIZE

SM Entertainment will be pushing out a new boy band in no time.

Their upcoming boy group is named RIIZE, a pormanteau of the words rise, which symbolises growth, and realise.

It comprises seven members — they are Shotaro, Eunseok, Sungchan, Wonbin, Seunghan, Sohee and Anton.

But not all of them are fresh trainees greeting the public for the first time.

Amongst them, two were previously in a boy band from the agency. If you’ve been keeping up with NCT, then the names of these two members should ring a bell.

Both Shotaro, 22, and Sungchan, 21, were previously in action with the emo-pop band. But they have since bid the group farewell, following an official announcement from SM Entertainment in May.

They were also in the megagroup’s spin-off sub-unit NCT U.

Earlier this month on 1 Aug, SM Entertainment unveiled photos of all RIIZE members via their newly-launched official Instagram account. It impressively gathered over a million followers within a mere four days.

Rising to the occasion, the group is staying booked and keeping themselves busy. They were named ambassadors for Korea fashion store Musinsa thereafter.

The boys also made a special appearance at KCON Los Angeles: an annual convention and the largest fan celebration of Korean culture and music.

At the show, they performed singles like Memories (2023) and Siren (2023) for the first time. Set to a pop genre fused with evocative synthesizer and guitar melodies, Memories evokes feelings of nostalgia while stirring excitement for what lies ahead.

RIIZE is set to make their debut officially with their first single album, Get A Guitar, on 4 Sep (Mon) at 6PM KST (5PM SGT).
