It is no exaggeration to say that STAYC were the perfect happy pill on a Friday evening at their Singapore leg of the Teenfresh tour.

STAYC’s songs are fun, pleasing and upbeat — perfect as a pick-me-up any time of the day. And it’s no exaggeration to say that the sextet were the perfect happy pill on a Friday evening.

They were here at Singapore’s The Star Theatre to stage their Teenfresh world tour. Named after their third EP which dropped last August, here are five highlights from the approximately 2½-hour show.

1. Bubblegum pop reigns supreme

For anyone who thinks that bubblegum pop might be a thing of the past, the girls of STAYC are here to change your mind.

The genre is still very much loved and well-executed, to say the least. The crowd, a mix of both males and females, sang along to each word of their addictive hits like ASAP (2021), Teddy Bear (2023) and STEREOTYPE (2021).

Deafening cheers were also in place for So Bad (2020), Beautiful Monster (2022) and Bubble (2023). My favourite part of their tracks though, is their trademark liner which goes like this: “STAYC girls, it’s going down”.

2. All members followed the dress code, somewhat

To add a pop of fun to their concert, STAYC shared that there would be a dress code for their Singapore show months before, as with their previous stops on the tour. For their Singapore show, the dress code was blue.

Some fans came in blue jerseys while others incorporated denim into their concert fits. The members, on the other hand, also took time to introduce their fits during a talk segment.

But they did not forget to mention the blue details, whether it’s their nail colour, their hairpin or their in-ear monitors.

3. A special surprise

Halfway through the show, members announced that they’d got a “special surprise” prepared for the fans.

It turns out that the sextet prepared a cover of homegrown singer Sezairi’s It’s You (2018). “Girl, you are the piece I’ve been missing / Remembering now,” the ladies sing of the heartwarming love track.

4. Fans serve up the best pick-up lines

STAYC’s fans, affectionately known as SWITH, know the way to the hearts of the girls. During their between-song talk segments, members read off witty fan boards.

A fan board wrote: “Sumin, why is our date happening in a concert hall?” A wave of laughter erupted as leader Sumin read the words out loud to the crowd.

5. Members taught Korean slangs

The six members were also excited to teach local fans Korean slangs and abbreviations. During their speech, they touched on “haeng-dang”, or “haeng-bok-man-dang” in full, which translates to a whole lot of happiness.

That’s the very phrase the girl group used to describe their experience during the Singapore concert.
