Show Review: Eric Nam humours crowd during his Singapore concert

From hyping up the crowd to contemplating life, Eric Nam can do it all as a performer. Here was what went down during the two-hour set during his House on a Hill tour in Singapore.

1. Familiarity with Singapore

His latest concert was not his first rodeo in Singapore, evidenced by how familiar the singer was with food spots less frequented by tourists.

He even recommended a dim sum shop for fans to patronise after the show ended. It was none other than Swee Choon, one of Singapore’s hidden hangout spots for the night owls or club-goers. 

2. Off-the-wall humour

Nam is a man of many talents. He serenaded the audience with ballads like Love Die Young (2019) but also made them crack up with laughter. 

At the start of the show, he said, “This is the second time I am performing at a seated show in the entire tour. I know that you are polite and respectful, but I want to encourage you to be less respectful! Stand up and dance! Or don’t. You can do whatever you want, you paid money to come here.” He was met with laughter from the crowd.

He also mentioned that he liked The Theatre at Mediacorp. It was intimate enough for him to conduct his shows ‘like a Ted Talk’.

He explained it was because he liked to talk to his fans, which prompted him to ask if they had experienced an existential crisis.

A little jarring for those unfamiliar with Nam’s humour, but for those at the show, almost everybody raised their hands with utmost excitement. 

3. Suave dance moves

Nam was known for his smooth vocals, but did you know that he could also bust a move? Accompanying him on stage were two back-up dancers who livened up the atmosphere. 

One track that stood out the most was You’re Sexy I’m Sexy (2019), where the myriad of hip thrusts brought out the central message of the song.
