The Baeksang Arts Awards this year was again a star-studded affair. It saw some of South Korea’s biggest celebrities including Song Joong-ki, Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Seon-ho grace the event.

The 60th edition of the annual awards show, hosted by Park Bo-gum, Suzy and Shin Dong-yup saw plenty of first-time winners across multiple categories.

The big winners

Four-time nominee Namkoong Min bagged his first Best Actor award for his role in the historical-romantic series My Dearest (2023). It also took home Best Drama, while Mask Girl (2023) scored a double in the Supporting Actor & Actress categories.

South Korean series Moving emerged as the night’s biggest winner in the TV category — as it was awarded Best Screenplay, Best New Actor (Lee Jung-ha) and the coveted daesang (Grand Prize).

The honours were shared in the film category between the historical action film 12:12: The Day (2023) and supernatural thriller Exhuma (2024), with 3 wins each.

Kim Go-eun received her first Baeksang accolade for her role as a shaman in the highly-rated occult film, while co-star Lee Do-hyun won Best New Actor on his big screen debut.

Lee, who is currently still in military service, was probably the evening’s biggest scene-stealer as he donned his military uniform. He, too, gave a mention of his actress-girlfriend Lim Ji-yeon in his acceptance speech.

A night of firsts

It was also a night of firsts for two K-pop artists with BIBI winning Best New Actress for her role in the movie Hopeless (2023). IVE’s An Yu-jin also received the most votes in the Popularity Award (Female).

Queen of Tears’ star Kim Soo-hyun, who missed out on the Best Actor award, was the other winner in the fan-voted Popularity Award.
