Show Review: JUNNY brings his A-game for second S’pore gig

JUNNY is back. Better than ever.

The Korean-Canadian singer performed in Singapore last year as part of his blanc Asia Tour 2023 at the Esplanade Annexe Studio. And this year, he returned to our shores to kick off his [intro] dopamine tour with DJ Daul.

Here are some highlights from his approximately two-hour gig.

1. Brand new songs

Just a week before the tour, JUNNY released his anticipated EP dopamine (2024).

With his tour named after the EP, it is no surprise his setlist has been tweaked to include his new songs. The concert started with a bang when the singer emerged backstage while performing RUSH (ft. BOBBY) (2024).

Arguably, the song that most fans were excited about was figure8 (2024). Throughout the night, fans were requesting JUNNY to play the melancholic song. At some point, he told fans: “Don’t worry, it’s coming”!

2. Surprise cover

While it was no surprise that there would be the inclusion of new songs, fans probably did not expect a cover.

To their delight, JUNNY launched straight into a cover of Bruno Mar’s That’s What I Like (2016).

3. Acapella set

One of the most exciting segments of every show that JUNNY holds would be his acapella set.

He would interact with the crowd, asking them for song requests. But he has one clause. If he did not know the song or had forgotten the lyrics, he would have to sadly forego the request.

At his Singapore gig, JUNNY was able to fulfil almost all song requests.

The crowd requested songs like Advanced’s Love Eternally (ft. JUNNY) (2022), boyhood (2022), a song from his blanc album, and Escape (2024), a soundtrack from the drama BEGINS ≠ YOUTH (2024).

It made for a hilarious moment when fans asked JUNNY to sing songs not originally sung by him. A fan requested Sabrina Carpenter’s new hit Espresso (2024). To which he asked: “Espresso? What is that?” as laughter erupted from the crowd.
