aespa’s Karina to make acting debut in Mnet’s variety show “MY ARTi FILM”

Karina of K-pop girl group aespa will soon make her acting debut. The 24-year-old will star in Mnet’s variety programme “MY ARTi FILM”, according to an announcement made on Thursday (8 Aug).

The series comes as part of Mnet’s innovative cinematic performance series, where various K-pop artists will challenge themselves with acting. They will attempt various genres such as romance, comedy, and thriller.

Each episode features choreography that reinterprets iconic movie scenes and fuses K-pop with a touch of cinematic flair.

As for Karina, she will take on the noir action genre. Her role will see her playing a strong, independent character who stands up against a crime boss.

“I enjoyed becoming the protagonist of a noir action piece, which I usually only watch,” Karina said. “I hope viewers appreciate and enjoy seeing this new side of me,” she added.

The programme previously starred various other K-pop stars, like The Boyz’s Sunwoo and ONF. On 13 Aug, the programme will also star Kiss of Life’s Julie and Natty.

This upcoming production will be Karina’s acting debut, and fans will get to see her mix in some of her dramatic craft. On solo works, she previously performed a solo number, Up, during the band’s ongoing live tour, Synk: Parallel Line.

The quartet previously brought the show to Singapore’s Indoor Stadium recently, on 20 Jul. Then, she performed the sassy number that boasted a hip-hop vibe, while serving some good girl-crush energy.
