Hallyu Spotlight: 5 HIGHLIGHT songs to add to your playlist

The lads of HIGHLIGHT will soon be playing their Singapore show this Sunday (8 Sep). This comes after their three sold-out shows in Seoul.

They will bring their Lights Go On, Again tour to Hall 7 of the Singapore EXPO. Well, their tour name has quite a fair bit of significance, because, well the spotlights are back on the lads again.

After a spade of events and members’ military enlistments, the group is back together with new releases. In fact, they’ve also gotten back rights to their former name, BEAST, according to Korea Joongang Daily.

Below, find five songs from HIGHLIGHT (or BEAST) to add to your playlist ahead of their concert.

1. Fiction (2011)

Probably one of BEAST’s best songs, I dare say Fiction (2011) played a big part in catapulting the idol group even further. It’s one of the songs that immediately comes to mind when you think of BEAST.

It’s an addictive earworm that hooks from the get-go. The unique and powerful opening is so distinctive, you can identify Fiction the moment the first note hits.

Its choreography is also equally iconic, especially the chorus where the idol group suavely puts their hands in their pocket while performing sleek footwork.

2. Lights Go On Again (2010)

The title number of their fourth mini album, Lights Go On Again (2010) is also their ongoing concert theme.

With Singapore as the last leg of their tour, this nostalgic and charming number is all the more meaningful.

3. On Rainy Days (2011)

This hit is hands-down one of my favourite BEAST songs.

Its melancholic lyrics of longing and soothing ballad can tug at your heartstrings. Their dynamic and powerful vocals further add that extra touch of yearning and desire.

It’s a track that’s powerful, poignant and slow enough to let you relish the process. On Rainy Days screams reminiscence and makes for the perfect listen. Especially on rainy days.

4. Body (2024)

With a catchy chorus and upbeat tempo that will get you grooving, this song is surely a concert bop.

It comes with unusual dance beats and synth riffs and it is everything the summer season needs. The song, in itself, is light, a little cheeky and gives off summer party.

How will the veteran idol group give Singapore that summer fizz? We’ll have to watch their concert on Sunday to find out.

5. Lovely Day (2022)

If very cutesy, very demure were a song, it’ll be Lovely Day (2022).

This is a happy number that comes with enough summer froth and fluffiness to put a smile on your face. Its lightheartedness and joyful concept depict the elation and sheer delight that stems from being with that significant other.

Lovely Day is that buoyant track that is bound to brighten your day.
