K-pop sensation Taemin on his novel concepts, Waterbomb essentials and song recommendations

Taemin is no stranger to Singapore. Last year, he played a show together with SHINee in March and held his solo world tour Ephemeral Gaze in November.

Both times here, he presented different facades of himself — as a member of the renowned boy band and as a soloist who’s amazingly varied, whether in terms of tracks or concepts.

This year, he’s coming back once again to perform at Waterbomb Singapore 2025. The two-day festival will take place from 30-31 Aug (Sat-Sun) at Sentosa’s Siloso Beach.

As we count down to his set, we caught up with the 32-year-old singer-songwriter as he dishes on his novel concepts, Waterbomb essentials and some song recommendations he has for fans.

You pioneered a new genderless concept with other male idols by breaking typical male stereotypes using an androgynous image, whilst continuing to create many new and innovative concepts. How do you think of such novel concepts?

It was interesting and fun to get consulting from producers and constantly challenge myself with unique and new ideas.

I believe that finding new inspiration when breaking free from artistic frameworks and then conveying that inspiration and philosophy is meaningful.

You were in Singapore last year for your solo tour, Ephemeral Gaze. So, what’s something new that fans can look forward to in your upcoming Waterbomb performance in Singapore?

This performance will offer a stark contrast to a typical concert. I hope everyone anticipates a show that will truly beat the heat. There’s also a special stage planned as a surprise gift!

How do you think your style has been evolving throughout the years as a solo artist, and is there any track you’d recommend to new fans?

It feels like my dancing, singing, and music are becoming more solid as I find my musical identity! I hope that you can check out my song titled Heaven (2020).

What are some essential items that you will pack for Waterbomb?

Make sure to bring a towel and a change of clothes, and put your phone in a waterproof pocket. Take good care of your physical well-being too 😊
