Show Review: Second time here, and Xdinary Heroes is rocking it all

South Korean rock band Xdinary Heroes recently played the Singapore leg of their Beautiful Mind world tour last Saturday (26 Jul) at The Star Theatre.

Comprised of Gunil, Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han, and Jooyeon, it is Xdinary Heroes’ second time back in Singapore. They played at the Esplanade Theatre in March last year, and members had fond memories of the show.

“We missed you guys,” said Gun-il, the leader of the band, during the show’s opening. “It’s been about a year, and the experience last year was amazing, so we were looking forward to coming back to Singapore,” he added.

Since their last show here, little has changed. The band’s energy remained high, and they went all out this time too. The only difference was that their fan base had grown in size.

If you’re a fan of loud noise music like I am (and the entire crowd at The Star Theatre), you would’ve been in for a treat. Here are three highlights from the band’s approximately three-hour-long show.

1. Pure vocal bliss

The show opened with a strong line from lead vocalist Jooyeon, seamlessly introducing their first song of the evening: Beautiful Life (2025).

Little did I know that these stunning vocals in the opening line were just a teaser for the breathtaking belts that would follow as the set progressed.

The crowd also sang along to the band’s songs, especially during the ballads. Even leader Gun-il was confused for a second. “How are you so good at singing along to Korean? Isn’t it a foreign language for you?” he asked.

2. No notes missed, no beats dropped

Through the set, members had opportunities to showcase their instrumental prowess through solo segments within the songs, where they could truly shine with a guitar riff or drum solo.

Member O.de, who’s usually on the synthesiser, also whipped out an instrument that he dubbed a “keytar” during fan favourite Sucker Punch (2022). He later lovingly showed it off to the crowd.

3. An unforgettable finalé

Moving to their final song, members suddenly gathered at the centre of the stage without their instruments. And they said that they had one last song planned.

I was expecting a lighthearted ballad that they would get the audience to sing along to, but the lads proved me wrong. 

The sextet broke into their 2024 track iNSTEAD! (2024), a metal-rock anthem featuring scream vocals by K-rock legend Yoon Do Hyun.

Safe to say, I was genuinely blown away by how they did it after almost 30 back-to-back songs. But, hey, at least they have a few days to rest their vocal cords before their next show.
