Show Review: Infectious and positive energy from STAYC brings smiles and cheers all around

You don’t have to always be active on social media to know about K-pop girl group STAYC.

After all, the band has already made a name for themselves with hits like ASAP (2021) and Stereotype (2021). And those songs were exactly what launched them to mainstream stardom, thanks to their addictive tunes and catchy melody.

So it comes as no surprise that their fans knew every lyric when the girls were in town yesterday (16 Aug), for their Stay Tuned tour.

Their recent trip here was not their first Singapore venture. In fact, they played at the same venue, The Star Theatre, when they were in town for their Teenfresh world tour last year.

“We really wanted to come back to Singapore since our last visit. I really wanted to stay longer, so we’re not leaving right away, and I’m so glad we can enjoy much more,” co-leader Sieun said.

Keeping in mind their fans who are seeing them for the second time in Singapore, they’ve put in effort to make sure that those who returned got a new experience. Their microphones were bejewelled, and in their individual colour no less.

They also prepared unit performances for the crowd to focus on their vocals. But their sheer presence alone was already an energy booster in and of itself.

I’d go as far as saying that STAYC was the breath of fresh air that Singapore needed. The sextet’s infectious and positive energy brought smiles and cheers all around with their bubblegum pop tracks that were designed to uplift moods.

Upbeat tracks like Bubble (2023) showcased the girls’ sweet and fun demeanour, especially when they brought out bubble guns mid-performance. Bubbles floating around the theatre created a nice touch. And that laid a light-hearted and playful mood for the next track, Troublemaker (2024).

If you don’t already know, STAYC is short for “stars to a young culture“. And they’ve definitely lived up to their name, as they have a fairly great impact over the music industry, despite being a fairly young band.

Almost every title track had its own viral challenge, a testament to their capabilities.
