With a perfect blend of modernity and traditionalism, Bon Appetit, Your Majesty (2025) is Netflix’s charming new romance fantasy film.
The plot follows Yeon Ji-yeong (Lim Yoona), a French chef with Michelin grit. Due to a treasured family heirloom, an old cookbook, she abruptly finds herself in the past.
There, she encounters an infamous, tyrannical king with sensitive taste buds, Yi-heon (Lee Chae-min). The series revolves around her trying to win over the king with her culinary skills while navigating palace politics.
Ahead of the series’ release today (23 Aug), here are four things you should know about the show.
1. A strong cast line-up

Nicknamed the queen of romcoms, this series marks Lim’s acting return, following a two-year hiatus from King the Land (2023).
Bon Appetit, Your Majesty also marks Lee’s first-ever periodical project. Now, he plays the role of the king, which will undoubtedly add more significance to the series.
For this series, the duo also prepared especially hard. Lim shared that she took on additional cooking courses while Lee studied the various intricate reactions and expressions to food.
2. Heartwarming chemistry
It’s never easy to pull off a romance show without chemistry. But safe to say, this duo went above and beyond.
Lee had been a long-time fan of Lim. At the series’ press conference, he said: “I told Yoona during our table read that it was a true fanboy moment for me.”

To match his enthusiasm, Lim also mentioned watching a few of Lee’s dramas before this project. It was heartening (and rare) to see co-actors who are mutual fans — so one can only look forward to their on-screen chemistry.
3. Feast for your eyes

One thing’s for sure, this drama guarantees a feast for your eyes; well, quite literally and metaphorically. With these two stunning and talented leads at the helm, the drama is surely a visual spectacle at every scene.
But that’s not all.
Lim added that the food presented in every episode is also worth keeping an eye out for and is sure to make your mouth water. “The food may seem familiar. But Ji-yeong adds her own touch to it, especially as a French chef”, she says.
4. Blending modernity and traditionalism

The central theme of Bon Appetit, Your Majesty has to be the integration of both modern and traditional elements
Aside from just bringing a modern twist to traditional dishes, Lim revealed that she also learnt how to use traditional utensils. During the cooking courses she took in preparation for this role, she even brought props from the set to use in her classes.
