Hotel Review: voco Seoul Myeongdong offers a touch of modern with a nod to Korean heritage

When you’re deciding on a hotel in South Korea, these few requirements definitely come to mind. Is it near a subway? Is there a convenience store nearby? What are the food options in the vicinity?

And it seems like voco’s newest property, located in Myeongdong, ticks all the check boxes. For one, voco Seoul Myeongdong is just a stone’s throw away from Hoehyeon station, which makes it so accessible to Myeongdong, Seoul’s key shopping district.

First opening its doors in 2022, the hotel boasts subtle Korean influences, like how its restaurant (which provides all-day dining) is converted into a street market in the evening.

It’s a clever nod to its surroundings, none other than the famed Namdaemun traditional market.

Patrons can enjoy all-day dining at 52 Market Place, which offers a wide range of both Korean and international dishes.

For a touch of exclusivity and luxury, the hotel also features a club lounge on its 18th floor. Now, while you slowly savour the flavours, you get to pair it with a view of the Namsan tower.

After a day of shopping and exploring the city, get some me-time with a 24-hour fitness centre, an indoor swimming pool, and a children’s pool, all located on the hotel’s third floor.

Alas, its rooms are delightfully comfortable, and I appreciated the uplifting yet playful design.

The hotel’s 576 guestrooms and suites are split between a cityscape panorama or views of the Namsan tower, the most fitting acknowledgement of the city’s heritage and present state.
