[COVER] Over 100 Idols And Artistes Performed For Singapore K-Pop Fans At HallyuPopFest 2018

Priding itself as South East Asia’s largest K-pop festival and the first of its kind in Singapore, HallyuPopFest 2018 was definitely one K-pop event that fans of K-pop would not have wanted to miss! Featured over 100 idols from South Korea, ranging from both rookies to veterans, the star-studded lineup has just recently concluded their 3-day event with a bang.

From September 7 to 9, lucky fans were treated to a thrilling concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the scale of which rivals what we often see in Korean productions, and it comes to no surprise as H.A.H Entertainment (the organiser) had engaged the help of Flax & Co, a Korean events production company.

With many of its equipment and staff being imported from the land of K-pop itself, concert goers were definitely in for both a visual and audio spectacle.

From dusk to dawn, K-pop fans enjoyed a range of activities in and at the venue. In the morning, fans can attempt to strut their stuff at the global auditions held by entertainment labels like Cube Entertainment, Starship Entertainment and Jellyfish Entertainment. These companies are house to some of the largest names in the K-pop industry, including: BTOB, PENTAGON, VIXX, MONSTA X and many more. Successful auditionees have the chance of becoming a trainee for those companies and who knows, we might even see a Singaporean debuting in a K-pop group in the future!

After which, fans can enjoy a closed-door, intimate afternoon showcase featuring various performers, namely Yu Seungwoo, gugudan, MOMOLAND, Jeong Sewoon, Dreamcatcher and MYTEEN.

Jeong Sewoon with his guitar, Pudding, serenading the crowd with his honey vocals in “Toc, toC!” and “Irony”!

Dreamcatcher charming the crowd with their stellar vocals and impressive dance routine.

Apart from singing their hits and interacting with fans up-close, a lucky draw was also conducted daily, and fans were treated to a variety of surprises. While some groups were picked to pose for their fans, some others were picked to give their personal items away or attempt a random play dance. Nonetheless, it was definitely a win for the fans (myself included) as they got to see a new side to their favorite idols .

Straight after the showcase, fans can catch a glimpse of all their favorite idols on the red carpet! The public event was so popular that fans queued from the wee hours in hopes of securing a good spot.

Although the weather was volatile for all 3 days, the fans’ passion was not deterred and if anything, the ardent fans only grew even more enthusiastic when their favorites appeared.

Many had even braved the rain in an attempt to capture their idols on camera and/or cheer them on up front. Such dedication!

After the sun had set, fans were ushered into the stadium to catch the evening concert (which lasted for 3 full hours!). The entire lineup from the start to the end was full of nonstop K-pop action. From emotional ballads to heart thumping dance tracks from both first time and frequent visitors to Singapore, fans were all in for a treat.

Eric Nam started off the entire festival and showed off his versatility through his engaging hosting and powerful stages such as “Potion”, “Don’t Call Me” and much more!

Despite having one member down due to an injury, MOMOLAND got the crowd excited with their catchy and addictive tunes like “Bboom Bboom”, “BAAM” and “Welcome to MOMOLAND”. Their enthusiasm was definitely second to none.

This festival also marks Apink’s return to Singapore after a long time and fans were very eager to hear them perform hits such as, “Mr. Chu”, “LUV” and “NoNoNo”.

Huh Gak also made the entire crowd emotional with his passionate singing in “Please Don’t Forget Me”, and thanked them for singing along to “As Always”. The entire stage was oozing with feels and I’m sure that fans who were there thought the same too.

EXID’s much anticipated performance at HallyuPopFest that marked their return as a 5-membered group after a full 2 years. Fans were treated to a slew of hits from old classics like “Every Night” to newer songs like “DDD”.

SOYOU marking her first visit to Singapore as a solo artist, singing her own songs like “Some” (which she performed with labelmate Jeong Sewoon!) along with exciting renditions of SISTAR’s “I Swear” and “Ma Boy”. Her performance definitely got the crowd wanting more.

Angels AOA being the ultimate girl-crush with “Bingle Bangle”, “Heart Attack”, “Miniskirt” and many more!

“Let’s Geddit!” NCT 127 making the fans go wild after performing fan favorites such as “Fire Truck”, “0 Mile” and “Cherry Bomb” in Singapore for the first time.

Heize being an all-round cutie with her impeccable fanservice (she literally tried spotting all her fans) and showing a different side to herself when belting out her hits like “And July” and “You, Clouds, Rain”.

UNB dominating the entire stage and becoming the crowd favorites with their powerful and visually captivating dances in “Feeling” and “Black Heart”.

“Hwaiting Eunkwang!” Despite missing a member, BTOB never fail to entertain the crowd with catchy songs such as “Missing You” and “Only One For Me”, and not to mention their funny antics and adorable attempts in speaking English.

It was also Wanna One’s return to Singapore after 2 long months and although some members seemed to be feeling unwell, they successfully closed day 1 and 2 of the concert with their powerful performances in “BOOMERANG”, “Light” and “Energetic”.

TAEYEON showing the crowd why she’s the Queen of Vocals as she closes the last and final day of HallyuPopFest with songs such as “I”, “Something New” and “Feel So Fine”.

For the concertgoers who attended all 3 days of the festival and were treated to a K-pop packed weekend, this concert was definitely a memorable one. With the promise of returning next year for HallyuPopFest 2019, fans can expect the concert next year to be bigger, better and even more spectacular, for this is just the beginning.

7 Survival Tips for HallyuPopFest 2018

We are less than a month’s time away from South East Asia’s biggest K-pop music festival, HallyuPopFest 2018! There are lots of anticipation for the upcoming event with many fans expected to fly in from the neighbouring cities, as this is the first time for such a large-scale K-pop music festival to be staged in Singapore. Whether you are a first time attendee or a veteran fan of K-pop music festivals, here are some survival tips that you should prep yourself up for the upcoming 3-day festival!

1. Bring your Tickets

First and foremost, ticket is definitely the most important item that you should never forget or lose on the actual event day! We know this is an obvious one, but it’s always a good reminder! You wouldn’t want to end up missing out on your favourite idols’ live performances, which you have been counting down to since day 1.

Especially for the upcoming HallyuPopFest, every ticket holder will be entitled access to the same-day afternoon showcases and evening concert, so be sure to bring along both tickets/e-ticket printouts!

2. Be Punctual & Don’t Forget your Portable Charger

Arrive on time or be early before the respective shows commence so that you don’t miss out any part of the opening and can enjoy other on-site activities like the daily afternoon showcases and red carpet event

Many fans end up draining their phone battery because they were bored waiting in line for admission or sharing their excitement on social media. So don’t forget to bring a portable charger with you! Get ready your fully charged phones and snap all you want at the daily Red Carpet event which will be open to the public outside Indoor Stadium — you might even capture the shot of your favourite idols striking their most stylish or unique poses on the red carpet! Don’t forget to join the hype by sharing these photos on social media with the official hashtag #HallyuPopFest during the festival.

3. Light Sticks

What’s a K-pop music festival without light sticks? Every K-pop fan will know that light stick is an essential concert item and it’d be such a beautiful sight to see different fandoms lighting up the stadium with their official fan colors and waving together to the music they love, along with thousands of like-minded K-pop fans! Whether it’s official or unofficial light sticks, it’s always good to have one with you.

4. Practise your Fan-chants

Besides waving light sticks, fan-chant is another way of showing support for your favourite idols. Though the performance set list is unknown to us, you can check out the Top 5 songs that were voted most popular by fans who wish to catch those performances at HallyuPopFest. (Click on the respective artiste profiles here to check out the voting results!)

Are you familiar with most of the fan-chants for your bias group(s)? Fret not, you still have a few more weeks to practise and get yourself ready!

5. Collect all the Fan Goodies and Participate in Fan Projects

One thing we really admire and respect about the K-pop fan culture is their unwavering love for the artistes and idol groups, where fans go out of their way to print hand-held banners for fan projects, or prepare free goodies to distribute for fellow fans, such as photocards, stickers and more. Most of these freebies are given out by them on the event day on a first-come-first-serve basis, so if you’re a fan of certain groups or artistes, make sure you stay well connected on social media (especially Twitter) to find out whether any fanclubs or fans will be distributing any goodies.

6. Stay Hydrated

Keep yourself hydrated at all times! The music festival will be a full-day event (though there will be breaks in between), so make sure you drink lots of water before, during, and after the festival so that you don’t pass out in the middle of your favorite song. That’s the last thing anyone would ever want to happen to themselves.

You can find out more information of the festival schedule here.

7. Respect All Performing Acts

Last but not least, we know that you might be the biggest fan of certain artiste or group, but do also show support to other performing acts because ultimately you’d want to give a good and lasting impression of Singapore to the artistes and idol groups.

Also be considerate of others around you, because rowdy behaviour such as pushing or cutting in line/queue will most likely get you nowhere! Avoid bringing bulky items to the stadium as there will be bag checks and security checks at the venue, with limited storage space available. The point is, let’s all enjoy the festival to the fullest! 😉

EVERYTHING You Need To Know About HallyuPopFest 2018 In Singapore

(In Photo: Wanna One) (Source: HallyuPopFest 2018)

The wait is finally over! For the past one month, the festival had been releasing and teasing the artiste line-up on their social media, and today (27 Jun) the organisers have confirmed more details such as the festival schedule and ticketing information. We will summarise everything into this page for your easy reference because it’s really extensive:

What is HallyuPopFest 2018?

HallyuPopFest is said to be the biggest K-pop music festival in South East Asia, and it will be staged in Singapore for the first time and over 3 days from 7 to 9 September 2018. The festival will feature over 100 K-pop idols, 111 to be exact, who will perform at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

It will be hosted by Korean-American singer-songwriter Eric Nam, and daily activities range from Global Auditions in the morning and throughout the day, followed by Afternoon Showcases and Red Carpet, and ending off with the festival’s finale Evening Concert, which promised power-packed performances that will go on for at least 3 hours daily.

(In photo: Eric Nam)

Who will be performing at the Festival?

The line-up is pretty amazing looking at the star-studded performer list, featuring Wanna One for two nights, as they are slated to prepare a different performance setlist for each night, and other headliners such as Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon, NCT 127, BTOB, Apink, Heize, EXID, and many more.

Fans can also look forward to up and coming groups such as UNB, Momoland, VICTON, Dreamcatcher, ONF and more, many of whom will be performing in Singapore for the first time. Check out the complete festival schedule below!

What are the Ticket Prices & Fan Entitlements?

There are five standard ticket categories ranging from Cat 1 to Cat 5 (Single day: From S$148 to $298 per day), and the ultimate Daebak! Pass premium tickets. All ticket holders (Cat 1 to Cat 5 and Daebak! Passes) will be entitled to FREE showcase entry aside from the evening concert, applicable for same day activities only.

EXAMPLE: If you purchase the Day 1 ticket (7 Sep), you will be entitled access to Day 1’s afternoon showcases and evening concert. Oh yes, Red Carpet* as well. That’s a pretty good steal. (*Note: Red Carpet will be open to the public too)

(Source: HallyuPopFest 2018)

What about the Daebak! Pass?

Daebak! Pass belongs to the premium category where you can get access to all the fan entitlements that Cat 1 to Cat 5 ticket holders receive, and on top of that, Priority Access to the showcases & concerts, a Dedicated Daebak! VIP Standing zone (red carpet & evening concert), Hi-Touch and Group Photo opportunities, exclusive Daebak! lanyard & pass, and the exclusive goodie bag that comes with it. Prices are S$498 per day and passes are very limited as well — definitely not cheap but it’s really for those who can afford it. (On the looks of it, it’s kinda similar to KCON NY, but KCON is priced much higher for their Diamond/Platinum packages.)

Daebak! (in Korean) = Something Amazing/Awesome  So ticket holders of this premium category, you can expect really up-close interactions with your favourite idols at the festival!

(*Note: Fans are not able to select which idol group/artiste for the Hi-touch and photo opportunity) (Source: HallyuPopFest 2018)

What is the Global Auditions all about?

For the first time ever in Singapore and South East Asia, three of Korea’s biggest K-Entertainment companies Cube Entertainment, Starship Entertainment and Jellyfish Entertainment will be partnering with HallyuPopFest to hold individual global auditions on different days of the festival.

(Source: HallyuPopFest 2018)

If you are an aspiring singer/dancer/actor/actress, you may like to note that the Head of Recruitment from the respective agencies will personally be in town to search for budding talents in the region! This is a dream too good to be true, but yes IT IS TRUEAll ticket holders, regardless of the ticket category, will be entitled to register for all 3 days of auditions. Of course, you’ll have to practice hard and send in your audition video clip for a chance to be shortlisted for the actual auditions by the Korean Entertainment companies at HallyuPopFest.

(NOTE: Auditions will be held in the morning and throughout the day, closed-door. If you are a shortlisted applicant, you will hear from the event organisers on where and what time to report for the actual audition. Find out more on the auditions here.)

If you didn’t already know, the K-Entertainment companies house really notable and talented artistes like your favourite idols, such as:

  • Cube Entertainment: BTOB, HyunA, Jo Kwon, PENTAGON, CLC, Wanna One’s Lai Kuan Lin, (G)I-DLE, and more
  • Starship Entertainment: Soyou, MONSTA X, Boyfriend, K.Will, Jeong Sewoon, Yu Seungwoo, Cosmic Girls (WJSN), and more
  • Jellyfish Entertainment: VIXX, gugudan, actress Jung So-min, Kim Ye-won, and more
